Mr. Naoaki Okuzumi, Senior Manager of IRID’s R&D Planning Department, Delivers Lecture at National Institute of Technology, Fukushima College (October 27, 2016)

Mr. Naoaki Okuzumi, Senior Manager of the R&D Planning Department at IRID delivered a lecture entitled “Future R&D Challenges Based on the Lessons Learned after the Fukushima Accident” at the National Institute of Technology, Fukushima College (Iwaki city, Fukushima Prefecture).

This lecture was organized as a part of “Program for Fundamental Research and Human Resources Development towards Decommissioning of Nuclear Power Plant” led by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, for “Academic Challenges from Fukushima through network among National Institute of Technologies” at the 1st Research Briefing FY2016.

The lecture covered the role of IRID, the current status of R&D for decommissioning efforts and R&D-related technical issues (needs). Okuzumi emphasized the essential role of cooperation between academia, industry and government for the exploration of further approaches to the development of technology, and particularly the need for positive cooperation with academia and young researchers.

A total of 11 institutes of technologies across the nation participated in the lecture meeting via a TV conference network with over 60 people including relevant parties attending. The audience listened with keen interest to the lecture on the post-Fukushima-accident response, the current status of decommissioning activities and challenges to still be tackled.
