Dr. Tamio Arai, Vice President of IRID, Delivers a Lecture at the NPO Environmental Veterans Firm (EVF)

The Non-Profit Organization (NPO) Environmental Veterans Firm (EVF) held a seminar at the NPO Shin-geneki Net meeting room on March 19, 2019. In the seminar, Dr. Tamio Arai, Vice President of the International Research Institute for Nuclear Decommissioning (IRID), delivered a lecture titled “Decommissioning Technologies for the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (NPS) and Robots: Current Status of the Research and Development (R&D) for Decommissioning Robots and Challenges.”

The lecture mainly covered an overview of IRID and robots developed by IRID as well as the status of the investigation inside the primary containment vessel and R&D related to fuel debris retrieval of the Fukushima Daiichi NPS.

The EVF (http://www.evfjp.org/; this site is available in Japanese only.) is an NPO seeking solutions to environment and energy problems for the future, which supports middle-aged retired engineers. The lecture was attended by approximately fifty people, who are mainly EVF members.

IRID continues to provide information on the status of R&D for the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi NPS to a wide viriety of people.
