[Videos] Operations Training for Investigation inside the Primary Containment Vessel (PCV) at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (NPS) Unit 2 and Equipment for Preliminary Investigation inside the Pedestal and Deposit Removal Equipment (Oct. 14, 2015)

Oct.14,2015

The inside of the PCV at the Fukushima Daiichi NPS Unit 2 is to be investigated by deploying the remotely-operated robot (scorpion robot) in place as soon as on-site preparations are completed, including investigation of the periphery of the penetration through which the investigation robot will be inserted.
Below are five videos, including one showing TOSHIBA CORPORATION, an IRID member, conducting training in preparation for the investigation inside the PCV this summer.

1. Training by TOSHIBA CORPORATION in preparation for investigation inside the PCV (1)
—Operations training—

This video shows the training of workers in operation of the investigation robot from the remote operation desk.
2. Training by TOSHIBA CORPORATION in preparation for investigation inside the PCV (2)
—Insertion of the investigation equipment—
20151014_02
This video shows workers undergoing training for insertion of a guide pipe which is to be used to insert the investigation robot and deposit removal equipment. The operation of the robot will start from the Seismic Isolated Building. The guide pipe will be inserted on-site under high radioactive doses and this requires workers to wear protective equipment and do the task in a short time.
(Note: The video does not include training with the workers wearing protective equipment.)
3. Training by TOSHIBA CORPORATION in preparation for investigation inside the PCV (3)
—Removal of the investigation equipment—
20151014_03
This video shows the workers training to remove the guide pipe which is to be used to insert the investigation robot and the deposit removal equipment. The operation of the robot will start from the Seismic Isolated Building. The guide pipe will be inserted on-site under high radioactive doses and this requires workers to wear protective equipment and do the task in a short time.
(Note: The workers underwent the trading with only masks when the video was shot.)
4. Operation of the equipment for preliminary investigation of the inside of the pedestal
20151014_04
This video shows the equipment for preliminary investigation of the inside of the pedestal is operating. Before the investigation robot is deployed, the equipment is used to investigate the situation inside of the pedestal as well as that on the top of the rail on which the robot moves. It has a camera mounted at the tip of its telescopic mechanism, which can be extended to the inside of the pedestal to shoot images there.
5. Operation of the deposit removal equipment
20151014_05
This video indicates that the deposit removal equipment is operating. It is equipment that removes deposits on the rail on which the robot moves by spraying high pressure water when the presence of deposits is observed during the preliminary investigation inside the pedestal.
