Mr. Atsufumi Yoshizawa, Executive Director of IRID, delivered a presentation entitled “The Current Status of IRID’s R&D Activities” as a part of FY2016 research briefing under the Program for Fundamental Research and Human Resources Development towards the Decommissioning of Nuclear Power Plants” led by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) at the National Institute of Technology, Fukushima College (hereinafter called Fukushima College, in Iwaki city, Fukushima Prefecture)

The presentation covered the role of IRID, the current status of R&D for decommissioning and R&D related technical issues (needs). He emphasized the essential role of cooperation between academia, industry and government to explore further approaches to decommissioning technology, and particularly the need for positive cooperation with academia and young researchers.

The meeting was attended by about 60 people including relevant parties across the nation via a network of the institutes of technology. The audience listened with keen interest to the lecture on the post-Fukushima-accident response, the current status of decommissioning activities and challenges still to be tackled.

IRID is committed to promoting positive cooperation with colleges, universities and research institutes through various lectures.
