Naoaki Okuzumi Delivers Lecture at the National Institute of Technology, Fukushima College (February 23, 2019)

On 23 February 2019, Mr. Naoaki Okuzumi, Senior Manager of the R&D Strategy Planning Department of the International Research Institute for Nuclear Decommissioning (IRID), delivered a lecture titled “Status of Technology Development for the Decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (NPS) Conducted by IRID,” mainly for investigations inside the Primary Containment Vessel (PCV) and technology development for Fuel Debris retrieval, at the National Institute of Technology, Fukushima College, in the city of Iwaki, at the Fukushima Prefecture.

This lecture was also presented at the research briefing session in fiscal year 2018 titled “Academic Challenges via a Network of the National Institute of Technology from Fukushima,” as a part of the “Program for Development of Creative Human Resources based on Fundamental Research for Decommissioning” led by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT).

In the lecture, Mr. Okuzumi mainly reported on the findings from the investigations inside the PCV and on the technological developments for fuel debris retrieval toward the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi NPS, and discussed issues that need to be resolved.

The lecture was attended by more than 40 people, including the involved parties. The audience listened with interest to the presentation on the current status of technological developments for decommissioning.
