The University of Tokyo – IRID Workshop was Held (November 1, 2017)

The University of Tokyo-IRID Workshop was held on November 1, 2017, as part of the Program for the Human Resources Development, commissioned by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).

The Workshop was attended by around one hundred ten people, including the members of IRID, people from industry and academia, professors and students of the University of Tokyo, etc.

During the workshop, Kenro Takamori, General Manager of IRID’s R&D Strategy Planning Department, made a presentation on “The Status and Challenges of Research and Development (R&D) Towards the Decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (NPS).” Additionally, Dr. Tamio Arai, Vice President of IRID, gave a lecture entitled “Development of Robotic Technology towards the Decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi NPS (II)” as part of the lectures by the University of Tokyo, School of Engineering, following on the lecture by Dr. Hajime Asama, Professor of the University of Tokyo.

The Workshop featured presentations on activities of the human resources development and fundamental research by universities, which are currently conducted by the University of Tokyo group, in order to exchange opinions on R&D for the future technology and the human resources development toward the decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi NPS. This activity provided a precious opportunity to strengthen cooperation with universities that are carrying out research on the decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi NPS, as well as enhance communication with young researchers.

IRID is committed to promoting positive cooperation with academia including universities.

Place: The University of Tokyo, Hongo Campus

Purpose: In order to proceed with the R&D projects of the decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi NPS that requires the next 30 years or more, it is necessary to secure and cultivate human resources from a mid-and-long-term perspective. The workshop is intended to promote cooperation with universities and cultivate young human resources through information sharing and opinion exchange together with the University of Tokyo, which has engaged in the Program for the Decommissioning and Human Resource Development commissioned by the MEXT.
