Naoaki Okuzumi, Senior Manager of R&D Strategy Planning Department, Gives Speech at National Institute of Technology, Fukushima College

Naoaki Okuzumi, IRID Senior Manager of the R&D Strategy Planning Department, gave a presentation at the National Institute of Technology, Fukushima College (in Iwaki city), entitled “The Status of Research and Development (R&D) conducted by IRID.”

This presentation was also given at the first research briefing session in FY 2017, Academic Challenging via a Network of the National Institute of Technology from Fukushima, as a part of “the program for human resource development based on fundamental research for decommissioning” led by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).

The speech mainly covered technology for investigation inside the primary containment vessel (PCV), and development of technology for fuel debris retrieval towards decommissioning the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. He emphasized the essential role of cooperation among academia, industry and government in exploring further approaches to decommissioning technology, and particularly the need for positive cooperation with academia and young researchers.

Over thirty people attended in total, via TV network with eight institutes of technology at the college. The audience listened intently to the presentation on technology development for decommissioning.

IRID is committed to promoting positive cooperation with universities and research institutes via various lectures, including delivery of lectures on demand.
