Speech by Hirohisa Kuwahara, IRID General Manager, R&D Strategy Planning Department at the 9th Student Research Presentation Meeting hosted by the Atomic Energy Society of Japan, Kanto-Koetsu Office (March 11, 2016)

Hirohisa Kuwahara, General Manager of IRID R&D Strategy Planning Department, delivered a special speech entitled “Current Status and Challenges in the Decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station” at the 9th Student Research Presentation Meeting (Atomic Energy/Radiation Field) sponsored by the Kanto-Koetsu Office of the Atomic Energy Society of Japan.

Participating students gave many opinions and asked several questions, including “What are the differences between the decommissioning of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and Fukushima Daiichi? Why has Japan decided to take the route of removing debris?” and “What effort is IRID making towards the development of human resources?”

The awards ceremony and informal party held afterwards offered the chance to deepen communication with students at universities and other institution who are involved in the research/study of atomic energy and radiation.
