The Summer School of 7th Creative Robot Contest for Decommissioning: A Lecture by Mr. Naoaki Okuzumi, Senior Manager of R&D Strategy Planning Department (September 1, 2022)

The 7th Creative Robot Contest for Decommissioning is planned to be held on December 10, 2022, and hosted by the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) and the Council of Technical Colleges of Human Resource Development for Decommissioning (its administration is managed by the National Institute of Technology, Fukushima College).

Prior to holding the robot contest, a summer school was held for the participants expected to attend the robot contest, at the JAEA Naraha Center for Remote Control Technology Development on September 1, 2022. At the summer school, Mr. Naoaki Okuzumi, Senior Manager of the R&D Strategy Planning Department, the International Research Institute for Nuclear Decommissioning (IRID), gave a lecture on “R&D Status of Decommissioning Robots for Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.”

The lecture featured robots and technologies for investigating inside the primary containment vessel and fuel debris retrieval for nuclear decommissioning, which have been developed by IRID. Approximately 50 attendees from 14 schools who were expected to participate in the robot contest listened to the lecture with keen interest.

IRID will continue to promote cooperation with universities and research institutes through on-demand classes and lectures.
