The Preparatory Study on Fuel Debris Analysis (PreADES) Meeting Organized by OECD/NEA: A Lecture by Mr. Naoaki Okuzumi, Senior Manager of IRID

The PreADES meeting was held online on December 17 and 18, 2020, which was organized by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)/ the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA).

The final meeting of the OECD/NEA PreADES Program Review Group Information Session was collaborated with two projects, ARC-F (*1) and TCOFF (*2). At the session, Mr. Naoaki Okuzumi, senior manager of the R&D Strategy Planning Department, the International Research Institute for Nuclear Decommissioning (IRID), delivered a lecture titled “The status of investigation inside the primary containment vessel, and research and development (R&D) for fuel debris retrieval.”

These R&D projects are proposed and led by the Japanese government and the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA), which is a member of IRID, aiming to support the study of the decommissioning strategy of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (NPS). Over 90 specialists in R&D from various nations listened to his lecture with keen interest.

IRID is intended to promote collaborations with international society through international organizations including OECD/NDEA.
