The Materials Science Symposium 2020 Organized by JAEA: A Lecture on Technological Development of Fuel Debris Retrieval for Fukushima Daiichi NPS by Mr. Naoaki Okuzumi, Senior Manager of IRID

The Materials Science Symposium 2020 was held online between December 23 and 25, 2020, which was hosted by the Material Sciences Research Center of the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA). Mr. Naoaki Okuzumi, senior manager of the R&D Strategy Planning Department, the International Research Institute for Nuclear Decommissioning (IRID), was invited to give a lecture titled “The Status of Technological Development of Fuel Debris Retrieval for the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (NPS)” at the symposium.

Mr. Okuzumi reported the investigation of the interior of the primary containment vessel for the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi NPS and the development status of fuel debris retrieval technology in his lecture. The lecture was attracted by approximately 60 people.
