-Introduction of Robots for Decommissioning-

IRID members Hitachi-GE Nuclear Energy, Ltd., TOSHIBA CORPORATION, and ATOX CO.Ltd ran a booth at the Robot Festa Fukushima 2015 held on November 3, 2015.

Date and Time: Tuesday, November 3, 2015 9:30-16:00
Place: BIG PALETTE FUKUSHIMA (Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture)
Organizer: Fukushima Prefecture

On the day of the event, there were over 4,800 visitors (according to the organizer) and many people dropped by the IRID booth.

At the IRID booth, Hitachi-GE Nuclear Energy, Ltd. displayed and gave operational demonstrations of the shape-changing robot (prototype) which had investigated the inside of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station Unit1. TOSHIBA CORPORATION introduced the scorpion robot and the quadrupedal robot in videos. ATOX CO.Ltd exhibited a part of the small remotely-operated decontamination equipment, RACCOON.
IRID received many questions and opinions from visitors such as “Up to what level of radiation can the robots withstand?” and “I hope you will do your best in decommissioning the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.”

This exhibition provided a precious opportunity for IRID to promote communication with people in Fukushima and contact with children who will be major players in the next generation.
IRID plans to make presentations at events and the like so as to explain details of IRID’s R&D activities in an easy-to-understand manner.
