[Session 1]

Hideaki Kiyoura, General Manager of IRID’s R&D Management Department, delivered a presentation on the status of the research development in fuel debris retrieval at the Fukushima Daiichi NPS. Then, Kenro Takamori, General Manager of IRID’s R&D Strategy Planning Department, reported IRID’s progress in technology development for fuel debris retrieval, based on a conceptual study on safety and practical application. The symposium was attended by approximately 350 people (including the media).

[Session 2]

This year’s symposium featured student’s research achievements. Eight students participated in the high-level presentation, and it was for the first time that some students gave a presentation in that symposium. IRID awarded the students who had the best and excellent performances by a narrow margin.

Additionally, IRID Vice Presindent Tamio Arai delivered a speech on expectations for students working on research development.

Session 2 provided an opportunity to promote direct communication with engineers and students who are engaged in R&D and an up-to-date information on IRID’s R&D.

Site tour at the Fukushima Daiichi NPS and Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) Naraha Remote Technology Development Center

On August 3, 2018, IRID organized a site tour at the Fukushima Daiichi NPS and JAEA Naraha Remote Technology Development Center for students, who gave presentations and exhibited posters at the IRID Symposium2018. They were undergraduates, graduate students and students at the National Institute of Technology.

This site tour was intended to promote a better understanding of R&D toward the decommissioning among students who are expected to work on the decommissioning in the future. The site tour also aimed to provide an opportunity to visit the Fukushima Daiichi NPS and Naraha Remote Technology Development Center to be utilized for further research activities.
