(September 21, 2018)

Naoaki Okuzumi, the senior manager of IRID’s R&D Strategy Planning Department, delivered a lecture entitled “Current status of technology development for the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (NPS)” at the meeting on the decommissioning of the nuclear power station held at the Fukushima Prefectural Centre for Environmental Creation (located in Miharu-machi, Tamura-gun, Fukushima Prefecture) on September 21, 2018.

In the lecture, he provided an overview of IRID, the investigation inside the primary containment vessel (PCV), the status of research and development (R&D) for the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi NPS and safety concepts for fuel debris retrieval in the future.

The lecture was attended by approximately 40 people, including researchers from the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA), the Fukushima Environmental Safety Center, the National Institute for Environmental Studies, and Fukushima Prefecture.

IRID continues to provide opportunities for introducing R&D broadly, with the aim of decommissioning the Fukushima Daiichi NPS.
