Naoaki Okuzumi, Senior Manager of R&D Strategy Planning Department, the International Research Institute for Nuclear Decommissioning (IRID), delivered a lecture on “Current Status of Technology Development for the Decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (NPS) conducted by IRID” at the OECD/NEA SAREF/PreADES meeting and BSAF Project Phase-2 workshop. These events were held in Paris between January 18 and 23, 2018. At the PreADES Project meeting, Mr. Okuzumi mainly described the investigation inside the primary containment vessel (PCV). For the BSAF Project Phase-2 workshop, he discussed the status of development and research on fuel debris retrieval. These projects are proposed and led by the Japan Atomic Energy Association (JAEA), a member of IRID, for the support and study on the strategy to decommission the Fukushima Daiichi NPS. Over forty researchers who have been involved in severe accidents in various countries listened intently to the lectures.

IRID continues to promote positive cooperation with the international society through international organizations such as OOECD/NEA.
