Special Lecture by Mr. Naoaki Okuzumi for Fukushima Technology Center Research Workshop (June 25, 2019)

A research workshop was held at the Fukushima Technology Center on June 25, 2019, and was co-organized by the Fukushima Robotic Society for Nuclear Decommissioning and Disaster Response. The workshop provided an opportunity to present technology developments and achievements supported by private companies, including technologies of both robotic and renewable energy sectors.

In the workshop, Mr. Naoaki Okuzumi, Senior Manager of the R&D Strategy Planning Department of the International Research Institute for Nuclear Decommissioning (IRID), delivered a special lecture titled “Current Status of Technology Development for Fuel Debris Retrieval at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (NPS).” He gave a clear exposition of fuel debris retrieval technologies conducted by IRID, including an introduction to the various devices used for investigating inside the primary containment vessel (PCV). Over 230 people from various sectors attended the lecture and listened to it with keen interest.

The decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi NPS is a long-term project that may last from thirty to forty years. Therefore, it is important to gather expertise from both inside and outside of Japan, cultivating young talent to maintain the decommissioning work.

IRID is committed to providing various opportunities for more people to understand our research and development (R&D) for the future.

Date and time: Tuesday, June 25, 2019, 13:00-16:30
Place: Fukushima Technology Center (1-12 Machiikedai, Koriyama, Fukushima Prefecture)
