Develop the Future for Decommissioning

IRID held the symposium to introduce R&D achievements for decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (NPS) as below.

This year’s symposium was titled of “Develop the future for decommissioning” and intended to contribute development of young researchers and engineers who will engage in decommissioning work.

Mr. Masuda, Chief Decommissioning Officer (CDO) of TEPCO, delivered a lecture on the current status of Fukushima Daiichi NPS for decommissioning. In addition, Mr. Kuwabara, General Manager of R&D Strategy Planning Dept. introduced R&D achievements and progress for decommissioning conducted by IRID.
Approx.400 attendees visited the Symposium. Thank you so much for attendance.

Panels, videos, robot exhibition and demonstration were performed.
IRID provided opportunity to directly communicate R&D engineers and students with Symposium participants through the introduction of companies engaged in nuclear decommissioning. Students presented on R&D achievements in nuclear decommissioning for commissioned program, sponsored by METI, “Subsidy Programs for Project of Decommissioning and Contaminated Water Management” and “Decommissioning Research and Human Resources Development Program” sponsored by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. The latest R&D conducted by IRID was also introduced.

Site tours at Fukushima Daiichi NPS and Naraha Remote Technology Development Center

Site tours at Fukushima Daiichi NPS and Naraha Remote Technology Development Center were organized for students including graduate students who exhibited for the panel session at the IRID Symposium on August 3rd (Wed), and university students who are members of Atomic Energy Society of Japan.

Site tours were intended to better understand R&D for nuclear decommissioning and contribute to the future research for students who will engage in decommissioning work.
