Naoaki Okuzumi’s Lecture at the JAIF International Cooperation Center (JICC)

Naoaki Okuzumi, Senior Manager of IRID’s R&D Strategy Planning Department delivered a lecture on “Overview of IRID’ research and development (R&D) including technologies for fuel debris retrieval”. The lecture was given during the JICC Infrastructure Seminar, a subsidy project on nuclear power infrastructure development granted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, which was held in Tokyo on February 1, 2019.

In the lecture, Mr. Okuzumi described situations of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station including the investigation of inside the primary containment vessel. Additionally, he described further activities to be carried out in future and the R&D status of fuel debris retrieval.

The seminar was attended by approximately fifteen people from various countries that have started using nuclear power or are planning to introduce nuclear power in the future. These countries include Turkey, Poland, Lithuania, Kazakhstan, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and others. The audience listened to the lecture with great attention.
