Delivering a Lecture by President of IRID and Poster Display at the 7th NDF International Forum on the Decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (August 28, 2023)
On August 28, 2023, Toyoaki Yamauchi, President of the International Research Institute for Nuclear Decommissioning (IRID) delivered a lecture titled on “IRID’s R&D Results for Fukushima Daiichi Decommissioning and Future Challenges and Expectations” at Day 2 the Special Session of the 7th International Forum on the Decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (NPS) which was organized by the Nuclear Damage Compensation and Decommissioning Facilitation Corporation (NDF). At the NDF forum, panels of IRID’s R&D results were displayed at the Technical Poster Session.
The NDF forum has been annually held aiming to provide information on the Fukushima decommissioning for people in Japan and overseas, to communicate with local residents and to share the latest progress and technological results of the Fukushima decommissioning. The forum was held over two days; The Day 1 program was taken place on the theme of “Think about Fukushima Daiichi Decommissioning and the Future of the Local Community,” and the Day 2 program was the theme of “Pursuing the Full-fledged Fuel Debris Retrieval at Fukushima Daiichi Decommissioning.” The IRID’s lecture and poster display were performed on the Day 2. The IRID President Yamauchi was assigned as an organizing committee member.
At the lecture, the IRID President Yamauchi talked about a role of IRID in the Fukushima decommissioning, investigation of inside the primary containment vessel so far conducted by IRID and technical development regarding fuel debris retrieval. Furthermore, he expressed future issues and expectations. The lecture was conducted for participants from Japan and overseas through Japanese-English simultaneous interpretation.
At the technical poster session on the Day 2, IRID’s panels were displayed focusing on robotic technology for the decommissioning developed by IRID. Our Senior Managers, Naoaki Okuzumi of the Planning and Administration Department and Osamu Seki of the R&D Management Department gave an explanation to visitors at the poster session.
