Minister Hiromichi Watanabe observed the apparatus (robot arm and enclosure) for accessing, performing a detailed investigation of, and conducting a trial to retrieve fuel debris from the Fukushima Daiichi Unit 2 PCV interior (June 7, 2023)
On June 7, 2023, Hiromichi Watanabe, Minister of Reconstruction of Japan, visited the Japan Atomic Energy Agency’s (JAEA) Naraha Center for Remote Control Technology Development where he observed the apparatus, comprised of a robot arm and enclosure, that will be utilized for accessing, performing a detailed investigation of the Fukushima Daiichi Unit 2 primary containment vessel (PCV) interior, and conducting a trial to retrieve fuel debris in the PCV.
