A Lecture by Naoaki Okuzumi, Senior Manager of R&D Strategy Planning Department at the Warsaw JAIF International Cooperation Center (JICC) in Poland

The Japan Atomic Industrial Forum (JAIF) International Cooperation Center (JICC) held the Warsaw Seminar in the capital of Poland on May 17, 2018. At the seminar, Naoaki Okuzumi, Senior Manager of R&D Strategy Planning Department, International Research Institute for Nuclear Decommissioning (IRID), delivered a lecture titled “Investigation Progress and Technology Development for Decommissioning.” The lecture covered an up-to-date status of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (NPS), investigation inside the primary containment vessel (PCV), and research and development related to fuel debris retrieval.

This seminar was attended by approximately 80 people from the Ministry of the Energy (Poland), the National Center for Nuclear Research (NCBJ), the Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE) EJ1 SP.z.o.o. (Polish state-owned energy company nuclear section), the Japanese Embassy in Poland, and academia, including the University of Warsaw. During the Q&A session after the seminar, the audience requested detailed explanations about the investigation with cosmic-ray muon, methods of coolant water treatment, and other subjects.
